Newsletter 21st March 2021 – 5th Sunday Of Lent

Dear Parishioners

This Sunday marks the beginning of Passiontide, a deeper time of Lent. This is the final Sunday of Lent before the beginning of Holy Week. The Liturgy of the Word of this day speaks of re-creation, resurrection, and new life.

On Saturday 27 March we welcome Canon Christopher Thomas who will come and stay at the Parish during Holy Week. In 1995 he was sent by Bishop James McGuinness to study for the priesthood for the Diocese of Nottingham at the Venerable English College in Rome. He was ordained a priest in St Barnabas’ Cathedral, Nottingham by Bishop Malcolm in 2001 and was appointed an assistant priest at the Cathedral and Catholic Chaplain to Nottingham Trent University. After serving our Diocese as a Parish Priest, Episcopal Vicar and Moderator of the Curia, on 9 May 2014, he was appointed General Secretary to the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and reappointed for a further 5 years in May 2019.

Canon Christopher is looking forward to joining us for Holy Week and I can only imagine that his day to day duties in London are very tiring indeed.

This year, the Celebrations for Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum will be in the presence of Christ’s faithful. Due to COVID the celebrations will be kept as short as possible to follow the guidance, drawing from information provided by the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine worship.

The guidance has been provided to help priests and the faithful to enter into the celebrations safely. Given that the guidance was written by Canon Christopher I believe God has placed us in safe hands.

Father Chris O’Connor wishes everyone a blessed Holy Week and passes on his kindest regards to you all.

God Bless

Andrew
