Newsletter- 28th Week of Ordinary Time
Dear Parish Family,
As we come together this weekend, the Gospel passage from Mark (10:17-30) gives us much to reflect upon. The story of the rich young man invites us to consider what holds us back from fully embracing the life Christ calls us to live. The man in the story had done all the right things, following the commandments since his youth, but when Jesus asked him to sell his possessions and follow Him, he hesitated. This moment challenges each of us to reflect on what we might be clinging to, whether it’s material possessions, comfort, or even fear that prevents us from fully surrendering to God’s will.
This reflection is particularly poignant as we think about the young people in our parish who have just received the Sacrament of Confirmation. In many ways, their journey mirrors that of the rich young man. Like him, they have been taught the faith, prepared to live it out, and now they stand at a crossroads, invited by Christ to embrace a life filled with the Holy Spirit. Our prayer for them is that, unlike the young man in the Gospel, they respond with an open heart, ready to follow wherever God leads them, free from the attachments that hold them back.
Let us continue to keep these newly confirmed young people in our prayers. May the Holy Spirit, whom they have received in a special way, continue to grow in their hearts, guiding them in faith and courage. Let us also encourage them by our own example, welcoming them into the life of the parish and nurturing the seeds of faith that have been planted in their souls.
In Father Jonathan’s absence, as he enjoys a much-needed holiday, we wish him a restful and refreshing break. May he return to us renewed in spirit and energy, ready to guide us with his pastoral heart.
Wishing you all a blessed and reflective weekend.
With all my prayers and best wishes,
Andrew
