Newsletter- 4th Week of Ordinary Time

Dear Friends,

As we gather to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, we are reminded of that moment when the child Jesus was brought to the Temple—fulfilling the Law but also fulfilling the hopes and prayers of awaiting people. Simeon, after years of longing, held the infant Christ in his arms and declared, “My eyes have seen your salvation.” His joy and peace came not from anything the world could offer, but from the realisation that God was truly with him.

This is a beautiful reminder for us all. No matter what we face, joys or sorrows, certainty or uncertainty—God is with us. Sometimes, like Simeon, we must wait in faith, trusting that God’s promises will be fulfilled in His perfect time.

Speaking of waiting, I know many of you have been keeping Father Jonathan in your prayers as he recovers from his recent operation. I’m pleased to share that I spoke with him this week, and he is doing well, resting at his mother’s home. He is grateful for all your prayers and kind messages, and I know he looks forward to being back with us when he is fully recovered. Please continue to pray for him during this time of healing.

We also remember in our prayers Heather Mascot, a beloved member of our parish who has been unwell for some time and sadly passed away this week. We pray for the repose of her soul and for comfort and peace for her family and loved ones. May the Lord, who is our light and our salvation, welcome her into His eternal rest.

This week, the church will be open all day on the days when a service or mass is taking place, as well as throughout the weekend before and after the masses. I encourage you to take a moment to come in, light a candle, say a prayer, or simply sit in the presence of the Lord, just as Simeon did all those years ago.

While Father Jonathan is away convalescing, please feel free to contact me on my mobile if you need anything at all. I am here to support you, whether for a chat, a visit, or simply a listening ear. If I am unable to answer straight away, please do leave a message, and I will return your call as soon as possible.

May the Lord bless you this week, and may we, like Simeon, always recognise His presence among us.

With all my prayers and best wishes,

Andrew
